How We Work
A simple, needs-based
approach
We use evidence based psychology, psychophysics, behavioral neuroscience and functional anatomy – how the mind and body works to support us in our daily lives – as the basis for each client’s individualized plan.
Outpatient Alternative: A New Approach to Mental Health that Works
Our outpatient program is designed to help those with mental health symptoms that have prevented them from having the lives they want and deserve.
After spending a combined 30 years working in treatment our founders discovered that the most effective and efficient way to treat symptoms of mental illness is by using an integrated, mind and body approach.
With a team of top-notch senior level clinicians and health and wellness experts across a wide range of disciplines, we use our knowledge of how the mind and body work together to facilitate healing, growth, success, and long-term change for our clients.
We Recognize That we Are All Different. Our Program is built Around You
We use a human needs model that allows us to work with clients at any stage of change, or at any level of severity along the mental health continuum.
Our five stgaes are as follows:
- Stabilization
- Safety and Security
- Mood Stabilization
- Empowerment
- Embodiment ( the integration of new learning into daily life)
Why Psychotherapy and Medication Are Sometimes Not Enough
Naturally we would like to find the easiest way to feel better. Often, we hope to be ‘fixed’ with the right medication and person to talk to. While this can be sufficient for some, where this approach can fall short is in our failure to recognize how mental wellness happens.
Recovery from mental health symptoms comes down to new learning and change. Change comes about from sustained action over time as the brain is rewired during a sustained process of thinking and behaving differently. Over time habits and patterns of thought and behavior form that work for you rather than against you. Over time this conscious effort becomes just the way you automatically react to the world around you.
Personalized and Integrated
Each Client’s program is specifically tailored to their learning style, strengths, goals, and interests.
Mynd Mvmt’s program is built to put an end to the need for multiple treatment episodes and is designed to create changes in the mind and body that are integrated into the daily life you desire. Our integrated model expedites the process of change and gives clients the opportunity to return to life with a much greater likelihood of success.

MYND MVMT client, 29 years old, Greenwich, CT
Just rereading a two-page email you sent me (from a year ago) about your impressions of our son and what it would take for him to get better. You seem to have been completely correct! We so appreciate all that you have done and are doing for him.
Father of MYND MVMT client, Westchester, NY
My MYND MVMT clinician gives me his undivided attention and has many ideas of how I can improve my current situation. I know he wants me to succeed.
MYND MVMT client, 26 years old, Westchester, NY
All I ever wanted was to be normal. I had been in and out of programs for years. I had honestly given up hope. I was depressed, dealing with horrible anxiety, was drinking just to get through the day. I couldn’t finish school or go to work. I kind of thought that would just be my life. Then I met Sam and her team, and everything changed. They taught me there is a totally different way to do it. Now I am a college graduate, living on my own and working in my first real job.

Our Model
Our Model
Our humanistic approach incorporates the most current research on the brain and body. How the mind both impacts and is impacted by the our inner chemistry.
Biopsychology
The most central component in all that we do. After Nearly two decades of experience working in mental health and substance abuse, it became overwhelmingly clear that an understanding of how the mind and body work together to create our experience is an essential resource that can expedite the process of healing and recovery.
The human mind and body system is predictable. Using biopsychology, also called behavioral neuroscience or psychophysics, clients can leverage how this system works to create the outcomes they need and want most, and in much less time than with more traditional modalities.
Cognitive Behavioral Techniques
Built into every part of working with MYND MVMT, clients are encouraged to use changes in focus, and behavior to train new positive habits of mind and body. The end result is a fundamental change in how our clients react to the world around them. Said differently, MYND MVMT specializes in creating new neurological patterns that stand up under stress and over time.
With upwards to 80,000 thoughts per day, our team of seasoned clinicians support clients, in part, by learning how to make changes to their thoughts, emotions, and ultimately to their behavior. Our team specializes in evidence based techniques including using cognitive thought reconstruction and other classic CBT treatment techniques.
Mindfulness
At MYND MVMT we have developed our own brand of mindfulness teachings that we use as a tool to make mindfulness easier for clients to understand and integrate into their lives. We refer to these as “The 3 A’s of Mindfulness”, Awareness, Alignment & Allowing. The 3 A’s are practically applicable to those working through mental health challenges or anyone wanting to improve their lives in some way.
Developing a mindfulness practice has been proven to facilitate health & wellness in every area of our lives. Mindfulness improves mood and performance, enhances mental acquity, improves overall health, helps to eliminate stress and reduce unhelpful cravings.
Motivation and Change
Too many of our clients start out afraid of not getting what they really want most, ready to settle for what they think they can have. From our first consultation and through every moment spent with our clients, the MYND MVMT team looks to leverage our clients unique motivations and desires and use our unique knowledge and skills to keep them “in the game”, motivated, even when they struggle most.
We recognize that motivation is the key element in making any long term healthy change. Our clinical team has dedicated their career’s to the study of motivation; well versed in modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, and with years of experience working with clients to help them stay committed to their long term success.
Kinsethetic & Multimodial Learning:
Mindful Movement
At MYND MVMT we have a saying, “long term change is the result of new wiring in the brain that stands up under stress and over time”. This new wiring is what you may commonly know as the process of “learning”. Be it riding a bike, learning a new language, or recovering from mental illness, learning occurs when brain cells generate new communication channels, wiring together information from different parts of the brain.
Each of us have our own specific and unique ways of taking in information from the outside world. These are called our learning styles. MYND MVMT uses an evaluation of executive function strengths and needs, such as one’s learning style, when determining the most effective and efficient pathway forward for our clients.
Targeted Approach
At MYND MVMT, we often use the analogy of the brain being similar to a GPS system. With a GPS you type in your desired destination and the system calculates a way to get you to it. If we however don’t type in anything or we give the computer a vague instruction like, “take me to the best lake”, or to a “better one”, the GPS does not quite know where to take us and as such we do not get very far. After years of studying brain science, It turns out that the human mind works in a very similar way.
Simply by being more specific, attentive, and clear about our target objectives we support our brain in doing what it is built for, in carving out a path for us to move in the direction of what it is we need and want. If we, however, don’t admit what we want, do not give our attention to our objectives, or give our attention to what we don’t want instead, we unknowingly make it far more challenging for ourselves.
Integration
Among the greatest difficulties we face as we embark on any change to thoughts, emotions, or behavior is the ability to hold on to the change as we encounter more stressful and challenging circumstances. Every decision our team makes is designed with this in mind.
It’s for this reason that integration, embodying the change as the “new normal”, is a critical part of what we do. Our team works hard to remain as a one unit, unified in our approach and aligned in our language, objectives and strategy. This helps to support our clients in their ability to maintain the recent changes in thoughts and behavior and to make the new learning permanent.
Building Awareness
By not understanding the problem correctly, we can do a lot of harm even with the very best of intentions. Part of the job of each MYND MVMT team member is to help our clients become far more aware of their inner voice – their inner “narrator”. Having been taught that thoughts are irrelevant, that only what we can see, hear, taste, touch, and do matters.
