The Research

At MYND MVMT we are continually looking to deepen our understanding of the mind and body system. Luckily for us we now have the technology to do just that. In deepening our understanding of psychophysiology we’ve exponentially grown our ability to facilitate the change, growth, health, and happiness process of others, and for ourselves. We offer below articles that we find important to share with all who share our interest.

WHAT IS PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGY?

Everything we do at MYND MVMT is founded in psychophysiology, the study of the interrelationship between the mind and body. Here we see the mind and body as one system, two sides (or expressions) of the same coin. By understanding the interplay between what we commonly refer to as the mind, as in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and the mechanisms of the brain and body, we can expedite the process of change.

MYND MVMT specializes in the mechanics of perception, learning & memory, the biology of emotion(s), human development, psychogenics, the biopsychology of change, and evolutionary psycho-biology, how our drives for survival and procreation impact our emotions, thoughts, and our behaviors.

USING MEDITATION TO PREVENT BRAIN AGING

Although there are several factors that determine whether or not someone becomes addicted to drugs and or alcohol,”a perfect storm” of biology, history, and circumstance, what most do not realize is its not how much someone uses the determines their level of dependency on a substance, but why they are doing it in the first place. Children who struggle with mood swings, and anxiety become more at risk for addiction later because of what they lack…because of what drugs and alcohol do for them. There are children who lack what we call resilience. Read about the value of building this in your children now, as to avoid all the challenges that may come later.

THE DANGERS OF ARBITRARY CATEGORICAL SYSTEM

Published in a recent edition of Psychiatry Research, a study out of the University of Liverpool concluded that DSM diagnoses are “scientifically meaningless”. The DSM-V (the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders) is the standard by which our mental health system defines and treats mental health. This research article reminds us of the differences between mental health, and medical diagnoses in both how mental health diagnosis are determined and defined.

VALUE IN SEEING IT A DIFFERENT WAY

In 1960, Thomas Szasz published The Myth of Mental Illness, arguing that mental illness was a harmful myth without a demonstrated biological basis. An argument that continues to have merit today. Szasz also warned of the dangers of labeling in taking away one’s personal responsibility. With those clients that do not respond to the current treatment standards, is there value in revisiting this conversation again now?
